xRotor Spider HEX

Jason Cole from Hobby-Lobby International has posted some photos of his latest BlueSkyRC build, the xRotor Spider HEX. He is using the DJI Naza board and will be running a GoPro Hero under the frame and a secondary camera for FPV seen on the nose.

This is probably the ultimate power package and components all available from BlueSkyRC.com

More details at the end of the video.

xRotor Spider QUAD another build

I finished my second xRotor Spider QUAD — this one is for tooling around — I may move the FPV gear over to it since I think these motors are a little more powerful than the Sk3s on my other Spider Quad.

Details:

Sensor: 6DOM – ITG3200 & BMA180
MultiWii version 1.9
Motors: Suppo 2212-11 and 1200kv (BlueSkyRC)
ESC: HW 25A (BlueSkyRC)
Props: Gemfan 8045 (from BlueSkyRC)
Rx: FrSky D8R-II
Battery: 2200 – 3000mAh 3s
Arms: GWS Glass Fiber Slow Stick booms with 5/16th bass wood insert.

Micro Spider HEX — video!

Here is the maiden flight video of the Micro Spider HEX. I only had time for a quick flight before work so I was not able to change the rates for acrobatics. That will be next. Details are at the end of the video.

FPV and the Family at the Park

We took the family to the park for fun and games — and of course some FPV with the xRotor Spider QUAD.

Micro Spider HEX — now shipping!

Micro Spider HEX
The Micro Spider HEX is now available. The kit includes a brief manual (also available on the product page), and the nylon mounting bolts and nuts. I am excited to see the MICRO FPV going on this thing.

User Build thread is here on RCGroups for the Micro Spider HEX.

Spotted Micro Quad at Park

I stopped by the park for a short fly this morning and Glade was there with his Micro Quad so I snapped a couple of photos. He was doing touch and goes off the palm of my hand. You can see the pink trim tape he has placed around the motors and the front arms. Looks great and looks very smooth and stable.

Micro Spider HEX coming very soon!

Micro Spider HEX — ok, I have been thinking about this for a while and working it out in my mind and I finally sat down last night and drew it up. My laser cutter was so excited about it, he cut me a couple of test cuts this morning. You can see the result and I am very excited.

This is as small as you can get with the 5″ props as they have about 1/4 to 1/2 inch clearance from each other as you can see in the photos. To give you scale, the two front arms are the exact arms from the original Micro Quad.

The side arms and tail arms feature I-beam style inserts to keep the longer arms stiff — the I-beam seem to work very well. The battery tray is part of the bottom body frame. There is also holes all around the frame to allow ESC wires into the body to create a clean micro. Also included is the BlueSkyRC Halo for those that like to cover their boards. The body has full support for standard 50mm boards and the smaller CopterControl size.

The motor mounts feature an array of mounting holes including the A1510 direct mounting.

I am using #4-40 nylon bolts — 3mm would work perfect as well. I am looking into a bulk purchase of the nylon hardware to include them in the kits.

Update: Micro Spider HEX is now listed
